Water And Weight Loss Myth - What Is The Truth

There is a simple trick which might help you lose a few pounds of weight without actually going on a diet. of course, the weight lost this way might not be too much, however, it is a good start. Specially for people who hate dieting, this can be an excellent trick.

What I am suggesting you to do is to drink a glass or even 2 of water before each meal. It might not be immediately before starting the meal, but it can be 20-30 minutes before you sit down to eat. Kindly note it seems it is not advisable to drink water at least half hour before and half hour after meals as it is said that this negatively affects digestion.

Drinking water before the meals might make you eat less. You might eat 70-100 calories less than you would normally have during the meal. Suppose you eat 3 times a day and eat around 100 calories less each time, that equals 300 calories less than you are accustomed to eating.

Notice, I am not asking you to force yourself to eat less. This can happen automatically and naturally because you drank water before the meals. Your appetite is going to be suppressed. My suggestion would be to do this in moderation as some people might get too much excited and try to drink huge amounts of water so that they may eat much less. But remember that it is not wise to reduce your calories drastically in a short amount of time as your body needs nutrients in order to function properly.

The body gets these nutrients from the food you eat so you have to eat properly otherwise your health is going to suffer. It is not worth losing weight by spoiling your health. This might cause you to face many ill consequences in the long run.

Another reason why drinking water 10-20 minutes before meals might be a good idea is that at times a person may be dehydrated and mistake his thirst for hunger. It means that we humans can sometimes be mistaken and think we are feeling hungry when actually we are feeling thirsty due to mild dehydration. If you feel slight hunger, then drink a glass of water and wait for around 15 minutes. If you are still feeling hungry then that might be real hunger and you can sit down to eat.

On the other hand, if your hunger diminishes greatly after having a glass or two of water, it might not have been hunger in the first place. Dehydration is very bad for health. It can make your thinking slow, cause headaches, affect mental performance as well as bring about a host of other problems.

In the dehydrated state, the blood of the human body becomes thick which makes it harder for the heart to pump it. Another thing I mentioned above was you should not expect huge loss of weight by drinking water before meals. Drinking plenty of water alone might not be sufficient for causing weight loss. You need to follow a well formulated diet plan as well.

Actually what you can do is set hourly quota for drinking water. Suppose you are planning to drink 8 glasses of water everyday, then it comes to less than half a glass of water per hour.

But since you will be spending about 6-8 hours sleeping and would hardly drink at that time, so deduct 8 hours from 24. It comes to about 16 hours.

Now your aim is to drink 8 glasses in 16 waking hours. That's an easy calculation now - drink 1/2(half) glass of water per hour.
So make an hourly commitment to drink atleast half a glass of water. As each hour passes by, you should force yourself to drink atleast half glass. Wow, isn' t that so easy now?

Drinking half glass should not be too difficult for most of us, even if we do not feel so thirsty at that time. By simply following this hourly commitment, we can easily achieve our desired goal of drinking 8 glasses of water a day. This water is very helpful for various bodily functions and it is also good for weight loss.

So you see how simple, easy and effective the above tip can be to drink enough water everyday. Just follow that tip and you should be able to increase your water intake without much fuss.

Tip #1: People who sit for long hours on their desks or in front of computer can keep a bottle of water at their desk while working, studying etc. This can serve as a constant reminder to you to keep drinking water.

Many times I feel like drinking water but I am sitting somewhere and feel lazy to get up. Keeping a bottle of water at my desk can prevent from feeling lazy to drink water if its not within easy reach.


Tip #2: If you are in a cold place or the weather is cold then drink warm or lukewarm water instead of hot drinks like coffee etc. The tip to drink more water in cold weathers is to go for lukewarm water.

Sure you can have tea and coffee a few times, but drink lukewarm water more frequently. It not only quenches your thirst but also keeps your body properly hydrated.


Tip #3: If you want to easily fulfill your daily drinking quota then drink more water when you wake up in the morning.

Drink a couple of glasses or more of water when you wake up in the morning. In the mornings, your body is naturally de-hydrated and it needs some water.

And by drinking lot of water early in the day, we are making it easier for us to fulfill our daily quota as we have to drink less water during the rest of the day now.

Tip #4: If you want to take this a step further, you can even set reminders on your mobile phone reminding you at critical times of the day to drink water. Just in case you forget!

Tip #5: Now the final tip and also the most important one if you want to get into the habit of drinking more water. Drink a glass of water NOW! Get up now and drink a glass of water. You can resume reading after that.

This final tip is very important. How many times we intend to do something but keep postponing it. We think we will start from tomorrow. But guess what - that tomorrow never comes.

Some Rules for Permanent Weight Loss - Why These Rules are Important

Rule #1 for Permanent, Healthy Weight Loss:
One of the first rules of permanent weight loss is to eat right. Eating right in no way means to eat more. It means that you have to make healthy food choices.

Healthy food choices mean that you have to avoid unhealthy foods, junk foods or foods with low nutritional value. Instead of that you need to eat foods that provide nutrition and are not harmful to your body.

At the same time, you should not completely stop eating a particular food group. It is because our body needs all kinds of foods in order to have a balanced diet necessary to remain fit in the long run.

If you totally avoid any 1 food group, you might develop deficiency after some time related to that food. It can cause illness or other health problems for you.

What you can do is to lessen the frequency and amount that you eat from a group which is not good for your weight like fats etc. Do not completely stop eating fat, but lessen the amount as well as the frequency of it.

Another rule of healthy permanent weight loss and fitness is to be physically active. See, you cannot remain fit and healthy without being physically active. Our bodies were not designed to lead sedentary lives or be couch potatoes.

You can further help your cause by doing simple activities throughout the day like climbing the stairs instead of the elevator once in the day, parking your vehicles a little farther than you like so that you have to walk the extra distance to your office or home. Or do some household work that involves moving about, lifting things etc.

Do you have stress in your life? Too much stress is known to be at the back of many illnesses and diseases. At the same time it can be bad for your weight too.
